SCDP Chairman Trav Robertson on Cory Booker Ending His 2020 Presidential Bid

Columbia, SC — Today SCDP Chair Trav Robertson released the following statement on Senator Cory Booker ending his campaign for President.

“I am sad to see Sen. Booker ending his campaign. Cory has been an incredible friend and ally of South Carolina Democrats, and his voice will surely be missed in this primary.

In 2018 Cory Booker visited South Carolina to campaign for our candidates up and down the ballot, and did anything we needed him to do. He is a man of integrity and perseverance who knows what it takes to fight for change in our country.

There could be no African-American candidates on our debate stages for the rest of the primary, and for a Party that elected Barack Obama it’s disappointing that our primary field is still so disproportionately white and male.

I believe real changes must be made so that candidates of color are not at the disadvantage they seem to be at currently in our nominating process. In South Carolina we have over a million non-white voters, and it’s  disheartening that our debate stage will not be as diverse as our electorate

I wish Sen. Booker the best. He may be out of the race, but I know that he will continue to be an important voice in our Party, and for the American people, for years to come.”
