It is Time to Confirm Representative Deb Haaland as our Interior Secretary
Today, the South Carolina Democratic Party released the following statement:
South Carolina Democrats proudly support President Biden and his nomination of Representative Deb Haaland as the next Secretary of the Interior. Haaland was named the most bipartisan representative of the 116th Congress and shares the Biden Administration’s commitment to the creation of a Green Economy and the over 250,000 jobs it will bring to rural communities and beyond. Her work in the Committee on Natural Resources has earned her praise as a “consensus builder” from her Republican colleagues.
Jay Parmley, SCDP Executive Director said, “More importantly, SC Democrats are fiercely dedicated to protecting the coastline, our State’s natural resources, and unique ecosystem of plant and wildlife. We believe Rep. Deb Haaland will be instrumental in helping South Carolina achieve net zero carbon emissions by the year 2050.”
We applaud President Biden on the historic nature of this nomination. As a tribal citizen of the Laguna Pueblo, Representative Haaland, would be the first indigenous American to serve in the cabinet. Congresswoman Haaland’s nomination deserves immediate confirmation.
