SCDP Statement on the Inauguration of Mayor John Tecklenburg

Jan 11, 2016

Columbia, SC –  Today John Tecklenburg will be sworn in as Charleston’s new mayor and Joe Riley will retire after 40 years of service. South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison issued the following statement.

“Today, Charleston enters a new era of visionary leadership under Mayor John Tecklenburg. I know his love for the city and commitment to the people of Charleston will only build upon the remarkable legacy of excellence created by Mayor Joe Riley.

“I would like to offer a special thank you to Mayor Riley for his four decades of service to the city of Charleston and to the state of South Carolina. When Mayor Riley was first elected Mayor, Charleston was a city riddled by tension and division. Under his leadership, Charleston has blossomed into the world class city that we know and love. I’m confident the impact of Mayor Riley’s leadership will be felt throughout Charleston for many years to come.”
