SCDP CHAIR STATEMENT ON HOUSE FAILING TO PASS TRUMPCARE

Columbia, SC – South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement on the U.S. House failing to pass the American Health Care Act, also known as Trumpcare:

“Today is a great day for the nearly 500,000 South Carolinians who would have lost health insurance had Trumpcare become law. The members of the South Carolina delegation who supported this act of cruelty should be ashamed. And the South Carolina Republicans who opposed it did so because the bill wasn’t cruel enough; they too will be held accountable by the voters.

“Now that Trumpcare is not going to become law, Democrats call on Republicans to work with us to improve the Affordable Care Act to provide more people with better health coverage at lower cost to them. Regrettably, despite their differing positions today, South Carolina Republicans have been united in favoring approaches that would provide fewer people with worse health coverage at higher cost to them. South Carolinians see that clearly now.”
