SCDP CHAIR DEMANDS SC GOP HOUSE MEMBERS REVEAL HOW THEY VOTED ON ETHICS

Columbia, SC – South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement today calling on S.C. Republican House members to reveal how they voted on a measure weakening the Office of Congressional Ethics, an independent investigatory body established by Democrats in 2008. The House Republican Conference passed the measure 119-74.

“Since its creation by Democrats in 2008, the Office of Congressional Ethics has been the light in the dark swamp. House Republicans, apparently quite eager to usher in Donald Trump’s culture of cronyism, voted anonymously to turn off that light so that their shady dealings can now go undisclosed and uninvestigated. South Carolina’s House Republicans must make known to their constituents whether they were among the 119 who cast such a disgraceful vote. If 119 Republicans think ethics investigations have been too tough, they owe it to South Carolinians to explain why.”
