SCDP CALLS FOR ASSEMBLY TO ACT AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Aug 08, 2017

Columbia, SC — It’s time for the Republican controlled General Assembly to pass laws that protect women and children from domestic violence. Former Republican State Representative Chris Corley was indicted for beating his wife and putting a gun to her head in front of their children, ages 2 and 8.

This is a first degree felony domestic violence offense and he received only six years’ suspended sentence and five years probation. In the words of the Attorney General Alan Wilson, Chris Corley’s sentence is “laughable and ridiculous”. If media reports are to be believed, why did the Attorney General Alan Wilson not prosecute this case? Yet again the Republican culture of corruption is endangering South Carolinians to benefit the “Good Ole Boy” system.
