SCDP CALLS ON MCMASTER TO INVOKE ARTICLE VI SECTION 9 OF SC CONSTITUTION

Aug 09, 2017

“Modern South Carolina demands that the Republican culture of corruption ends.”

Columbia, SC — Today, the Chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party called on South Carolina’s governor, Henry McMaster, to use Article VI, Section 9 of the South Carolina Constitution and suspend the Attorney General until the Special Prosecutor’s public corruption probe is complete.

Chairman Robertson stated, “The constitution clearly outlines what our Republican Governor’s duty is when cases of misconduct are discovered. When the Republican Attorney General sought the advice of and shared information with Richard Quinn, the potential target of the corruption probe – it became a case of neglect of duty and potential misconduct – Alan Wilson should be removed by the Governor until this is resolved.”

“It is time for the Republican Governor and his staff to quit protecting Richard and Rick Quinn and fulfill his constitutional duty. I know the Governor has been a good ole’ boy for a long, long time, but a modern South Carolina can’t shield good ole’ boy misconduct. The Governor should send this case for investigation to the Supreme Court’s office of disciplinary counsel. After all, if this was just an ordinary citizen, not a Republican Quinn client, he would throw them under the jail.”
