Dear Friend,
As my tenure as Chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party comes to a close, I have been reflecting on the work we have done, the progress we have made, and the challenges that still lie before us. Providing opportunity for all South Carolinians has been my life’s work, and it has always been clear to me that electing Democrats who will enact Democratic policies is required to advance that goal. While the odds for Democrats in South Carolina can seem long, the importance of the task requires our long-term commitment, and your dedication to the people of our state, and to the ideals of our nation, has inspired me every single day.
Tonight, I am thrilled to announce that I will be continuing this work as Associate Chair and Counselor of the Democratic National Committee. In order to enact Democratic policies to help all Americans, including those who live in red states, I will be working to build a 57-state and territory strategy. I will be leading DNC initiatives including the State Party Partnership, training programs, vendor diversity, and 2020 planning including the convention, debates, and nominating process. I will also lead outreach to the DNC’s Southern Caucus, Rural Caucus, Disability Caucus, and Native American Council.
I’m so excited to help leverage national resources to rebuild all State Parties. With progressive energy at a fever pitch throughout the country, we have a unique opportunity to elect Democrats in every community in America. To make that happen, we have to get to work building our Party from the grassroots. I will be laser-focused on this party-building work at the DNC.
Thank you for all of your thoughts, prayers, and support over the past weeks, months, and years. It has been the privilege of a lifetime to lead our State Party, and I look forward to working in my new capacity with the next SCDP Chair to build on the progress we have made. While we are rightfully discouraged by those currently in positions of power, I truly believe that our Party, our state, and our country are moving in the right direction. Let’s keep fighting to make sure we move toward opportunity for all and shared prosperity for the next generation.
