Statement from the South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain on Attorney General Alan Wilson’s Public Safety Advisory on the “NO KINGS” Protests:

Jun 12, 2025

Columbia, SC – Earlier this week South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson issued a Public Safety Advisory and warning to protestors for protests planned for Saturday, June 14. South Carolina Democratic Party Chair released the following statement in response:

“Surely South Carolinians are growing tired of the South Carolina Attorney General using his office to score political points with his MAGA base. Let’s call Alan Wilson’s ‘Public Safety Advisory’ what it is: a blatant attempt to use fear to stifle peaceful protest.

South Carolinians want a government that works for all of us, not chaos.  Alan Wilson’s inflammatory rhetoric is nothing more than political theater designed to impress Donald Trump, not serve the people of this state.

South Carolinians know our rights. Peaceful protest is not only protected by the Constitution, but it is also a proud part of our history. It’s not optional, negotiable, or subject to the whims of any elected official, including the Attorney General.  Peaceful protest is a cornerstone of the country’s history and its future. From the Civil Rights Movement to today’s fight for equity, progress has always occurred when people refuse to remain silent in the face of injustice.

South Carolinians respect the law. South Carolinians respect law enforcement. South Carolinians believe that public officials should perform their duties without fearmongering or politicizing fundamental civil liberties.

South Carolinians deserve an Attorney General who will stand up for their rights, not use their office to score political points.”
