STATEMENT FROM SCDP CHAIR TRAV ROBERTSON, JR. ON THE PASSING OF COLIN POWELL
COLUMBIA, SC — South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Trav Robertson, Jr. released the following statement on the passing of Colin Powell:
“General Powell demonstrated everything that is great about our Democracy. His life represented the ideal of and the belief in the American dream. He was an inspiration to communities of color and to those of us who yearn for the day when statesmen and stateswomen put America above anything else.
“After experiencing the horror of war in Vietnam, Powell became the highest ranking African American in the military, serving as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He continued his service and leadership to our country as the first African American Secretary of State.
“He lived a life of integrity and character. Our nation owes him a debt of which we can’t repay. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and our country during this time.”
