COLUMBIA, SC – Today, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Trav Robertson, Jr. released the following statement after three U.S. District Court judges struck down South Carolina’s First Congressional District as racial gerymandering and ordered the General Assembly to redraw the district:
“South Carolina Republicans just caught cheating. They knew they couldn’t win a first district drawn fairly, so they concocted illegal and gerrymandered lines. We are thankful that the courts have intervened and look forward to a quick resolution that produces a fair and legally drawn First District. We applaud the South Carolina NAACP and ACLU for their relentless pursuit for fairness.”
