SCOTT THORPE ELECTED SCDP THIRD VICE CHAIR
Columbia, SC – The South Carolina Democratic Party State Convention has elected Scott Thorpe to serve as State Party Third Vice Chair.
Scott Thorpe has spent the last decade working in Democratic politics professionally and personally. Starting with Howard Dean’s presidential campaign in 2003, he has worked on the communications, policy, and field operations of campaigns in Georgia, Montana, Virginia, Maryland, and at the national level. Recently, he volunteered on Andy Smith’s Columbia City Council run in 2015 and with the Tyler Gregg and Hillary Clinton campaigns in 2016. He serves as the chair of the Young Democrats of the Central Midlands.
“I’m excited to be elected as the next Third Vice Chair and I’m ready to get to work,” Thorpe said. “We’ve got a long climb ahead, but I know that we’re going to make real progress over the next two years, and young people are going to lead the way!”
Outgoing SCDP Third Vice Chair Lauren Bilton said, “Congratulations to the new SCDP Third Vice Chair, Scott Thorpe! As the officer position reserved for a young Democrat, the Third Vice Chair’s role is especially crucial as we work to rebuild our State Party for long term success. Young voters in South Carolina are diverse, progressive, and hungry for change that only Democrats can bring. I am eager to help Scott make the next generation a Democratic generation.”
