“The fact that Tim Scott would go so far with his anti-abortion extremism as to support actions that put our national security at risk isn’t too surprising — this is the same person pushing for a national abortion ban and calling South Carolina’s six-week ban ‘good news.’ South Carolina has thousands of families on our eight military bases, yet Tim Scott and MAGA Republicans are all too ready to put their anti-abortion extremism above our nation’s servicemembers.”
As Senator Tuberville’s Scott-supported blockade is impacting each of the Defense Department’s five branches of service nationwide, the Post and Courier detailed the “enormous impact” this is having in the Palmetto State:
- “The uncertainty about incoming or outgoing commanders can make it difficult to plan for or advance mission requirements at the base, directly resulting in degraded military readiness.
- ‘As promotions stagnate, it prevents lower tiers from being promoted into key leadership positions, thus creating a domino effect that exponentially grows over time,’ said Master Sgts. Amanda Junk and Chad Usher, two spokespersons at Shaw.
- ‘Ultimately, this has an enormous impact on our Air Force military families’ life plans that already struggle with housing, spouse employment and children’s education opportunities.’”
