SCDP STATEMENT ON DONALD TRUMP’S DANGEROUS REMARKS
Columbia, SC – The South Carolina Democratic Party released the following statement today in response to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s false claim yesterday that Hillary Clinton wants to repeal the Second Amendment and that “[i]f she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is. I don’t know”:
“What Donald Trump said yesterday was abhorrent, dangerous, and totally out of bounds in our political discourse. It cannot be explained away, lightly tsk-tsked, or blamed on the media or anyone else. The peaceful transfer of power and acceptance of electoral outcomes is the foundation of our democracy. Any public figure who calls these principles into question must be condemned vociferously and must not be supported in any campaign for public office, regardless of his or her views on policy issues compared to other candidates in the race. Any public figure who continues to support such a dangerous candidate is enabling a threat to our democracy.”
