SCDP CHAIR STATEMENT ON TRUMP’S AIR-POLLUTING, PLANET-THREATENING, LEADERSHIP-SHIRKING EXECUTIVE ORDER
Columbia, SC – South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement on President Trump’s executive order rolling back the Obama Administration’s efforts to curb greenhouse gas pollution:
“With this shortsighted executive order, Donald Trump is sending coastal South Carolina out to sea along with American leadership. Contrary to the administration’s claims that today’s action is necessary to grow our economy and create jobs, if America fails to lead the fight against global climate change, we risk severe economic dislocation in coming decades and allow other countries to leapfrog us in clean energy jobs and innovation.
“America is exceptional because we have led the world in taking on the challenges that no one country can address on its own. The entire world has drawn upon the talent and determination of Americans of all backgrounds, and our global leadership has paid dividends here at home. Today, rather than bring Americans together to lead a 21st century global energy revolution, the Trump Administration has chosen to deny reality and abdicate our historic role. Democrats will fight for clean air, a secure planet, respect for facts, and an America that proudly accepts the great privilege of being the indispensable nation.”
