Columbia, SC – South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Trav Robertson released the following statement on the General Assembly’s override of Governor Henry McMaster’s veto of legislation that will raise the state gas tax to pay for road repairs:
“The passage of this bill over the governor’s veto will make our roads smoother and safer while providing tax relief to the working families and students who need it most. Enhancing South Carolina’s transportation infrastructure will foster business growth throughout the state, creating good-paying jobs for our people.
“Today’s victory was only possible because of the determination of Democrats to get the job done. If our state wants to implement more solutions, we need to elect more Democrats.”
