Columbia, SC – SCDP Chair Jaime Harrison issued the following statement in reference to SC GOP State Senator Lee Bright embarrassing South Carolina by introducing the same discriminatory “bathroom bill” that has received scrutiny and criticism in North Carolina.
“Today, Lee Bright stooped to a new low and filed legislation that mimics the hate and fear-fueled law recently adopted in North Carolina.
“Bright must be deaf to the outcry from North Carolinians across the political spectrum and the business community who know discrimination hurts, not helps, our communities. This stunt is incredibly short sighted.
“Mr. Bright continues to be an embarrassment for South Carolina! We will not tolerate the hate & division that plagues North Carolina in our beloved Palmetto State!
“I know we can do better. I have seen South Carolina do better. It’s time for the SCGOP to rein in its own and say no to this hateful legislation.”
