SCDP CHAIR CALLS ON TOMMY POPE & RALPH NORMAN TO DEFEND THEIR VOTES ON FLAG, CONDEMN SHERI FEW
Columbia, SC – South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison is calling on State Representatives Tommy Pope and Ralph Norman to stand up to Sheri Few and defend their votes to remove the Confederate flag from State House grounds. Few’s attack stated, in part: “[W]ith the left more radical … and more unhinged than ever, it’s going to take strong leaders who will boldly challenge, confront, and defeat the left, rather than be intimidated by them.” Few’s statement also noted, accurately, that “neither Ralph nor Tommy could defend their votes.”
Harrison issued the following response: “With Sheri Few more radical and more unhinged than ever, it’s going to take strong leaders who will boldly challenge, confront, and defeat Sheri Few, rather than be intimidated by her. If Tommy Pope and Ralph Norman can’t stand up to demagogues like Sheri Few, how will they stand up for all 5th District residents?”
Harrison is also calling on Few’s Republican opponents to condemn her nonsensical attack on former South Carolina Governor and U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley: “Dick Riley was a highly successful 2-term governor and 2-term Cabinet secretary because he worked to bring people together to find common-sense solutions to improve South Carolinians’ lives and expand educational opportunity nationwide. All of the 5th District candidates would be wise to follow his example. If Tommy Pope, Ralph Norman, and the rest of the Republican candidates don’t have the good sense to condemn Sheri Few’s attack on one of South Carolina’s most eminent statesmen, then they don’t have the good sense needed to serve effectively in Congress.”
