SC Dems Executive Director Blast GOP Over Benghazi Hearing Admissions

Sep 30, 2015

Columbia, SC — The South Carolina Democratic Party Executive Director Jason Perkey released the following statement today on House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s shameful admission that House Republicans led by South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy “fought” for a taxpayer funded partisan committee:

“It’s unthinkable and saddening that Congressman Trey Gowdy is using the deaths of four brave Americans as a partisan political game.

These taxpayer funded games have gone too far, and its time to stop this abuse of power. The tragic deaths in Benghazi have been the subject of seven bipartisan Congressional investigations, yet Congressman Gowdy continues to spend millions of taxpayer dollars on the longest congressional investigation in history. Our state and country deserve better than scoring cheap political points off the deaths of our fellow citizens.”

In an interview on FOX, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy admitted:

“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee. A select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known that any of that had happened had we not fought to make that happen.”

“Tossing around what happened in Benghazi like a political football is shameful,” Perkey added.
