SC Dems: Congressional Republicans are Playing Politics with SC Jobs

Sep 15, 2015

Columbia, SC— The South Carolina Democratic Party released the following statements in response to the announcement that General Electric will be send 400 jobs to France instead of Greenville, SC.

Once again the Republican-controlled Congress is playing politics with South Carolina jobs. Today, our state has seen the very real effects of opposing the reauthorization of the Export Import Bank. Last month, Boeing, another South Carolina employer, announced that it would be losing a contract worth hundreds of millions of dollars due to the inaction of Republicans in Congress. It’s clear Congressional Republicans would rather play ideological games in Washington than create jobs for working families in South Carolina.

“Representative Mick Mulvaney and others in our Republican Congressional delegation have been leading the charge against the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank while Boeing, GE, and the hard-working people of South Carolina are taking the brunt of their political games.  The Export Import Bank has always received bipartisan support.  It is an agency that is pro-American businesses and pro-American workers.  It is time for a change in Washington and that starts with a change in our congressional delegation, ” said South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison.

One of the most important issues in South Carolina is jobs, yet our Republican-controlled Congress has failed Greenville County families by shamelessly opposing the reauthorization of the Export Import Bank. We’re not just losing 400 jobs those are 400 fewer families and numerous businesses that will miss out on a chance to grow our local economy, ” said SC State Senator Karl Allen (D-Greenville).
