RALPH NORMAN DESERTS LAW ENFORCEMENT, VOTES TO DENY BENEFITS

“My God, I can’t imagine what he would do to our veterans’ benefits”

Columbia, SC – South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Trav Robertson today called on Ralph Norman, the Republican nominee in the 5th Congressional District, to apologize for attacking first responders suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  Norman even mocked the reality of PTSD, remarking dismissively, “Any of us could go back here, get a crayon and a coloring book and start chewing on the desk, and we would be deemed mentally incompetent.”

“Throughout his time in office, Ralph Norman has voted against helping the law enforcement professionals who protect South Carolina,” Chairman Robertson said.  “My God, I can’t imagine what he would do to our veterans’ benefits if he’s elected to Congress.  I hope and pray that we won’t have to find out the hard way.”

Specifically, Norman argued that law enforcement officers are not due benefits if harmed in the line of duty, because they “knew it was coming.” Despite never having served in law enforcement or the military, Norman has been quick to minimize the sacrifice and injuries of our men and women in uniform.

Robertson went on to point out that, unlike Norman, Democratic nominee Archie Parnell, who served in the U.S. Department of Justice and whose father was an Air Force Master Sergeant and World War II veteran, understands the sacrifices our first responders make and the struggles they face.
“Archie Parnell is the only candidate in this race with law enforcement experience, and he’s the only one our men and women in uniform can trust to fight for them.”
