“Donald Trump was the one who put three anti-abortion justices on the Supreme Court who ignored decades of precedent and overturned Roe v. Wade. Donald Trump is the president who backed a federal abortion ban that threatened jail time for doctors who provided care, and just a few months ago, he indicated that he would support another one again. Donald Trump is the one who can’t stop boasting about being responsible for getting rid of Roe v Wade, and I bet he’ll spout that same line today in Summerville. And Donald Trump is the one who said, “Without me, there would be no six-week [abortion bans],” said South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain. “Let’s be clear: If Donald Trump gets back in the White House, he’s going to do everything in his power to ban abortion nationwide. Just look at who stands with him in South Carolina: Governor Henry McMaster, who led the push to ensure MAGA Republicans in the legislature passed our state’s six-week ban, and Senator Lindsey Graham, who is leading the way in the U.S. Senate to try and pass a national federal abortion ban.”

“Those of us who live in Texas and in South Carolina, we share some really important things — wonderful food, wonderful people, warm weather, but unfortunately, we are also sharing the … impact that Donald Trump’s anti-abortion positions, when he was president — the impact that we’re feeling in states like Texas and in South Carolina. … The truth is that extreme six-week bans like the ones in Texas and South Carolina lay directly at the feet of Donald Trump,” said Rep. Veronica Escobar. “While he brags about nominating the three justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, it’s women in South Carolina, women in Texas, who have seen their freedom limited. … Women in Texas and women in South Carolina and states across the country with bans in place know how dire the consequences of that choice can be — that’s why we’re going to stay laser focused on making sure MAGA extremism doesn’t get anywhere near the White House in 2024.”
