Excerpts From Today’s Press Call Ahead of the Take Back America Forum

Sep 17, 2015

Columbia, SC Today South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison and Greenville County Democratic Party Chair Eric Graben held a press conference call on last night’s debate and what South Carolinians can expect to hear at tomorrow’s Take Back America Forum.

Here are a few excerpts as prepared for delivery from SCDP Chair Jaime Harrison:

The number one topic of last night’s debates should have been how to help working and middle class families, but that somehow never came up.

Last night we  saw nothing but attacks, and zero solutions to give a raise to the estimated 595,000 South Carolinians would benefit from raising the minimum wage to $12 per hour. [i]

Like South Carolina’s Governor Nikki Haley, Governors like Scott Walker, John Kasich, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie touted economic plans that would give tax breaks to the wealthy,  instead of working to make sure everyone has an opportunity to succeed by investing in education and supporting pay equity.

The American people need people who will represent them and fight for good paying jobs and strong businesses. We don’t have that anymore with the Republican Party.”

Here are a few excepts as prepared for delivery from Greenville County Democratic Party Chair Eric Graben:

There are a number of candidates who are against the Export Import Bank and now we’ve seen how that hurts business and workers. The Republicans that say they are pro-business are against it.

Tomorrow we should expect to see Republicans taking positions that appeal to the right-wing populist base but are bad for the country.”
