Columbia, S.C. — As the Biden Administration commemorates the success of their first one hundred days in office, former Vice President Mike Pence will be in South Carolina to meet with evangelical leaders and to address hundreds of members of the Palmetto Family Council, an activist group known to lobby for traditional conservative values.
Earlier today, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, joined by SCDP Chairman Trav Robertson, Jr. hosted a media briefing, on Mike Pence’s failed leadership on COVID-19, his silence on the January 6th insurrectionists led by his own President and how Republicans are openly attacking Americans’ fundamental right to vote by introducing over 200 pieces of legislation at the State level, including South Carolina.
DNC Chair Jaime Harrison: “We all watched as Pence ignored early warning signs about the seriousness of this virus. He repeatedly downplayed the threat and he told the American people that the risk it posed was low. We were then witness when he failed to lead as chair of the COVID-19 taskforce, choosing to ignore the recommendations of scientific experts. And when Republican and Democratic governors across the country asked for more help, Mike Pence failed to deliver. Republicans like Pence failed to lead when they were in power, so now they are trying to cheat, working to make it harder for people, especially people of color to vote.”
SCDP Chair Trav Robertson, Jr.: “Mike Pence should be ashamed to be in South Carolina to promoting a pro-life agenda when Republicans are gleefully working to restrict access to reproductive health, prevent trans students from participating in athletics in tax payer funded public schools, while refusing to work with Democrats to curb gun violence. Moreover, Republicans continue to insist Trump won the election, while pushing a false narrative on election fraud in an effort to restrict and suppress access to the ballot box coast to coast.”
