Today, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain previewed the extreme and unpopular MAGA agenda set to be on display at tonight’s first RNC primary debate.
As Republicans converge on stage tonight, we won’t hear real plans to help hardworking South Carolinians – instead, candidates will uplift their extreme MAGA agenda of banning abortion nationwide, cutting Social Security and Medicare, and fighting culture wars instead of delivering for working families.
Read highlights from the chair below:
- “Haley and Scott do not represent the best of South Carolina, and it’s a shame that they’re going to use this national platform to spew dangerous rhetoric and uplift policies that could harm folks in our state.”
- “Tim Scott has spent his time in office as Donald Trump’s right-hand man where they’ve enacted legislation that hurts communities right here in South Carolina. There’s nothing nice about wanting to make Trump’s tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy permanent – putting money in the hands of the richest 5% of South Carolinians while leaving hardworking families in the Palmetto State behind. There’s nothing optimistic about future generations not having access to Social Security and Medicare because a President Tim Scott would make those programs– make sure those programs are cut.”
- “[Nikki Haley will] say anything to get what she wants, including chasing after the MAGA base with extreme policies… She’s said she would sign a national abortion ban if it ever came to her desk, which isn’t surprising considering she signed an abortion ban as South Carolina governor that had NO exceptions for rape or incest. She’s also called for making Trump’s tax scam permanent.”
- “Republican candidates have decided to embrace the anti-freedom, MAGA agenda pioneered by Donald Trump and uplift policies that hurt hardworking families in South Carolina and across the country. They’ve chosen to rip away the freedom to make our own health care choices. They’ve chosen to stand with the NRA over schools and communities. And they’ve chosen to embrace ugly culture wars. And they’ve chosen the wealthy and corporations over hardworking families. The MAGA agenda is deeply unpopular and not what American people want. It’s obvious these candidates are pandering to the MAGA base, not the 2024 general electorate.”
- “At tonight’s debate, that contrast will be clear: President Biden and Vice President Harris will be running to fight for our freedoms and grow the economy from the middle out and the bottom up, not the top down. Republicans are fighting each other for the title of most extreme MAGA candidate.”
