Henry McMaster Let This Happen
Columbia, SC – New reporting found SCANA’s former chief executive was paid $1.8 million as a consultant on the utility’s VC Summer Nuclear Plant boondoggle but there are no records of the work he did. This seems like a good time to break down how Governor McMaster let SCANA – his top campaign contributor – cheat South Carolina ratepayers.
- Governor McMaster failed to challenge or block the the 2007 Base Load Review Act when he was Attorney General. This law has made it easier for SCE&G to raise rates on South Carolinians. Now the state’s ratepayers are left holding the bag.
- In 2017, McMaster called the Base Load Review Act “fair” – just a few months before SCANA hosted a fundraiser for his 2018 campaign.
- McMaster fired Santee Cooper Chairman Leighton Lord but he refused to return the $2,500 campaign contribution he got from SCANA CEO Kevin Marsh. McMaster has gotten $115,000 from SCANA employees and PACs and has refused to return it.
- McMaster’s indicted ex-political adviser Richard Quinn used to be SCANA’s political consultant. This begs the question what Quinn did to cover up SCANA’s mismanagement and what the Governor knew.
