Eight years ago, then-Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell rightly demanded the completion of ethics reviews before he would allow President Obama’s Cabinet nominees to be confirmed. Now that there’s a Republican administration taking office, Mitch McConnell and congressional Republicans have apparently decided that ethical standards and procedures shouldn’t apply, and they’re rushing Trump’s nominees to confirmation before Americans have a chance to realize how poorly suited these cronies are for such important positions.
Last week, our phone calls stopped the House from abandoning its ethics. This week, we need to keep the Senate honest. You know what that means: CALL OUR SENATORS and tell them to refuse to vote to confirm any nominee until the ethics review has been completed. Here are the numbers:
Sen. Lindsey Graham: (202) 224-5972, (864) 250-1417, (803) 933-0112, (843) 669-1505,(843) 849-3887, (803) 366-2828, (864) 646-4090
Sen. Tim Scott: (202) 224-6121, (803) 771-6112, (864) 233-5366, (843) 727-4525
The Republican strategy is to overload us with a parade of horrible actions, hoping that we won’t be able to sustain our outrage. We have to STAY ANGRY, and KEEP CALLING. If Republican phones are ringing off the hook, they’ll notice. But that requires all of you to call on a regular basis, to voice your objections on numerous issues (regrettably, there will be more than enough to object to). We had a big win last week on House ethics, but the fight is just getting started. Together, we will prevail.
