SCDP Condemns Lindsey Graham for Putting Corporate Elite Over Workers

Columbia, S.C. — Today, Trav Robertson, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair, released the following statement one day before the anniversary of the passage of the GOP tax giveaway criticizing Lindsey Graham for voting for the law which was a boon for the corporate elite at the expense of workers.

“I’ve said it before, and I will say it again: Lindsey Graham does not care about the working people of South Carolina,” Robertson said. “His only concern is doing the bidding of his wealthy donors, and we see exactly that with how hard he worked two years ago to pass this corporate tax giveaway. While supporting deductions for millionaire corporate executives, Senator Graham voted against middle and working class tax credits. Lindsey Graham has got to go.”

On December 20, 2017, Lindsey Graham voted in favor of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which drastically benefited corporate America. In 2015, Sen. Lindsey Graham voted against legislation that expanded tax credits for workers and the middle class. That same year, Sen. Graham voted against legislation that would have eliminated deductions on corporate compensation over $1 million. It is estimated that the middle class in South Carolina will have to pay an extra $270 million because of the Graham supported Trump tax plan.
