Family Promise Director, Elliott Brown, to Speak on Behalf of Beaufort County’s Homeless Population at Indigo Run Golf Club, November 12, 2013
The Beaufort County Democratic Club, South of the Broad, is honored to present Executive Director, Family Promise, Elliott Brown, as guest speaker November 12, 2013.
Ms. Brown will speak to attendees and take questions following lunch at the Indigo Golf Club, from 12 noon – 2:00 pm.
She comes to the low country from Austin, Texas, where she learned to care for those less fortunate than her, from her father – an awesome power of example – who volunteered at a homeless shelter. “My dad used to take me with him to volunteer for a homeless shelter when I was a teenager,” she says.
Brown has dedicated her life to helping American homeless families find shelter, transportation, jobs, and food. She brings her solid leadership background to Beaufort, which includes serving as Grant Manager with Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Austin, TX, as well as Director of the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Austin. Her work generates extraordinary awareness of, and concern for, the homeless problems within communities. In Beaufort already, she has identified the lack of public transportation as the major barrier to helping assimilate and employ homeless people.
