SOUTH CAROLINA DEMOCRATS COMMEND BIDEN’S EFFORTS TO END CORONAVIRUS

Columbia, S.C.— As South Carolinians prepare to move to phase 1b of its vaccination roll out, prioritizing citizens 55 and older and frontline and essential workers who must be in-person at their place of work, Democrats are lauding Tuesday’s announcement from the Biden administration to ramp up vaccine production and distribution.

“Despite the obstructionist policies of the GOP and Trump’s failure to contain the virus, President Biden is taking action as the United States is administering an average of almost 2 million doses per day.” said SCDP Chair Trav Robertson, Jr.

In addition, South Carolina Democrats are urging the party faithful to contact Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott to pass the American Rescue Plan. A recent Morning Consult poll found 60% of Republicans support components of the American Rescue Plan, yet Republicans on the Hill refuse to support the plan.

Democrats recognize that local governments across the Palmetto State need assistance to keep essential workers employed and providing vital services to our communities. The Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 will provide South Carolina’s government upwards of $2.1 billion, making an additional $1.6 billion available to local governments throughout the state.
