“Your words are dividing Americans, not healing them.” – Senator Lindsey Graham to President Donald Trump
COLUMBIA, SC — Yesterday, the president doubled down on the false moral equivalency between violent white supremacists and the counter-protesters they attacked over the weekend.
Of the elected Republicans in South Carolina and those vying for statewide office, Senator Graham is the only one to publicly criticize the President for his failure to unequivocally condemn the ongoing violence.
As the leader of their Party, the president speaks for these officials until they have the courage to take a stand against his promotion of racial hatred. As the president continues to encourage these extremist groups, the Republican leaders in South Carolina, including Governor Henry McMaster and his challenger Catherine Templeton, are complicit in his ongoing effort to destroy our most basic values.
McMaster, Templeton, Tim Scott, Mark Sanford, and the rest of the Republican Party in South Carolina continue to support a president that empowers hate groups.
