Columbia, SC – South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Trav Robertson released the following statement on passage by the U.S. House of Representatives of the American Health Care Act, also known as Trumpcare:
“Mark Sanford, Joe Wilson, Jeff Duncan, Trey Gowdy, and Tom Rice should be ashamed of themselves. If this bill is enacted into law, more than 20 million Americans will lose health insurance, and thousands will die prematurely. Trumpcare would return to the days when having a pre-existing condition means you can’t get coverage. The Republican Party’s cruel and immoral disregard for people’s lives is stunning, and South Carolinians will not stand for it.
“Now the eyes of our state are on Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott. Will they follow House Republicans down this disgraceful path? And the eyes of voters in the 5th District are on Republican candidates Ralph Norman and Tommy Pope. Will they continue to lack the courage to do the right thing?”
