SCDP CHAIR STATEMENT ON ARCHIE PARNELL ANNOUNCEMENT
Columbia, SC – South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement on Archie Parnell’s announcement that he will run as a Democrat in the special election for the U.S. House of Representatives from the 5th Congressional District:
“I commend Archie Parnell for throwing his hat into the ring. As Donald Trump’s rubber-stamp Republican Congress works to take health care away from millions of Americans and give tax cuts to millionaires, South Carolinians are looking to Democrats for an alternate approach. As we wait to see whether there will be a Democratic primary, today’s announcement ensures that 5th District voters will have at least one candidate with sensible ideas on how to expand opportunity for all and fulfill Congress’s constitutional role as a check against a power-hungry President.”
