Columbia, SC – SCDP Chair Jaime Harrison issued the following statement at the closing of the period for candidates to file for office in the 2016 election cycle.
“I am so very proud of the nearly 500 Democrats who stepped up and threw their hat in the ring to fight for the middle class, to fight for our children’s futures, and to fight against the ongoing corruption that is plaguing our state legislature.
“South Carolina Democratic candidates are going to campaign for a better quality of life and ultimately restore the American Dream for everyone, not just a select few.
“We report to the working and middle class who built America and built South Carolina. And, as a party, we’re going to support our candidates who make the middle class stronger.
“South Carolina Democrats are prepared to lead the New South in the 21st Century. Democrats are working hard to fix our roads, invest in our schools, and provide ethical leadership to South Carolina.
“So buckle your seat belts. Election season has begun. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work!”
