Columbia, SC – South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Trav Robertson released the following statement calling on all Republican members of Congress from South Carolina to hold town halls during the upcoming congressional recess to hear constituents’ concerns over the GOP bill that would take health insurance away from 22 million Americans, including over 400,000 South Carolinians, to give massive tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires:
“It was reported yesterday that Senators Graham and Scott believe that South Carolinians are confused about the Republican health care bill. If that is the case, they owe it to their constituents to explain clearly and thoroughly why they think it would be a good idea to take health insurance away from more than 400,000 South Carolinians in order to give a massive tax cut to millionaires and billionaires. And our Republican House members certainly owe it to their constituents to hold town halls in their districts to explain why they already voted to take health insurance away from even more of us. If our state’s Republican members of Congress refuse to hold public town hall meetings during next week’s district work period to discuss this critical issue, they will have failed to perform their most basic duty of representation, and they will no longer be fit to serve.”
