Columbia, SC—South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison issued the following statement on Republican Congressman Mick Mulvaney’s endorsement of Kentucky Senator and Republican Presidential candidate Rand Paul.
Both Congressman Mulvaney and Senator Paul supported closing the Export Import Bank which has cost Greenville 400 jobs and resulted in Boeing, a major South Carolina employer, losing a contract worth hundreds of millions of dollars. They were also leaders in the 2013 Republican-led government shutdown that created nationwide dysfunction and confusion. Congressman Mulvaney should be focused on creating jobs in his district, but instead he’s backing ideas that are outside of the mainstream and bad for South Carolina’s middle class.”
