Columbia, SC—Today, South Carolina Democratic Party announced the James E. Clyburn Political Fellowship.
Over the next year, 50 fellows—one from each county, and 4 statewide—will participate in five 3-day seminars/ training sessions. Once completed, the fellows will be equipped to run for office, manage issue-based or political campaigns, and participate in the leadership/management of local and county party politics.
The goal of the Clyburn Fellowship is to develop the next generation of leadership and talent in the South Carolina Democratic Party. I’m excited about the opportunity to engage younger Democrats in the political process.
“The Democratic Party in South Carolina is growing as younger, more diverse voters join the electorate. Our hope is to engage those who are interested in politics to build a bench that will be able to run for office, run successful campaigns, or participate in county party leadership.
“Jim Clyburn is the best example of how a young person when given an opportunity can get involve in politics and improve the lives of so many. I am proud to add this fellowship to the legacy the Congressman has built of preparing the next generation of leaders,” said South Carolina Democratic Party Chair, Jaime Harrison.
“I am honored to have my name associated with this Fellowship. Engaging young people in the Democratic Party is key to continuing the fight to make the political system work for everybody. The fellowship also provides meaningful political experiences for future political candidates and supporters.” said Congressman James Clyburn.
The deadline to apply for the fellowship is September 18, 2015.
