GOVERNOR AND ATTORNEY GENERAL ATTACK SOUTH CAROLINA WORKERS
“McMaster and Wilson are overreaching in an attempt to disenfranchise workers in this state.”
Columbia, SC – South Carolina’s Right-To-Work laws are some of the strictest in the country. Less than 3% of workers in SC belong to a union — the lowest percentage in the country. Republicans frame this as a freedom for workers, but in reality these laws lower wages and offer no protection for working class people.
This week, Gov. McMaster and Attorney General Wilson jumped into a dispute, filing an amicus brief attacking workers and in support of Boeing, who has asked the National Labor Relations Board to harm flight line workers by overturning a ruling allowing them to unionize.
“Governor McMaster is cherry picking issues at his convenience.” said South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Trav Robertson. “It’s despicable that he won’t stick up for the thousands of jobs at stake in the BMW and Michelin plants because of Trump’s tariffs, but he’s more than willing to attack workers in his own state.”
Chairman Robertson continued, “Going after workers’ rights is a cheap political stunt. As workers seek better wages and protections, McMaster and Wilson are scrambling to strip them those rights. South Carolinians deserve better than a Governor who only uses his office for personal gain. A Governor who uses his power to line his own pockets and cash in favors isn’t a leader, he’s a villain.”
