Columbia, SC— Today, South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison hosted a press conference call on Republican presidential candidates former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina campaigning in South Carolina.
Here are a few excerpts from SCDP Chair Jaime Harrison as prepared for delivery:
“Governor Jeb Bush has spent his career doing what would benefit himself and people like him – certainly not looking out for working Americans. We saw this most clearly when he made insulting comments claiming African Americans only support the Democratic Party for ‘free stuff’.
…
“Jeb Bush is no moderate and certainly no different from a field of Republicans that is tripping over themselves to appeal to the most conservative and backwards members of their party.
…
“As Governor Bush’s poll numbers have tumbled into the single digits, it’s no surprise that he has shifted to a strategy of appealing to far right wing of the Republican party by attacking women, African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans. At a time with the American electorate has never been more diverse Governor Bush and the Republican Party continues to push backwards ideas from a part of our history that should stay in the past.
…
“Nearly every claim Carly Fiorina made about her time at Hewlett-Packard failed to pass a single fact check.
…
“Here’s the truth. While at Hewlett-Packard Carly Fiorina fired more than 30,000 people. If she couldn’t help the families of employees when she worked at Hewlett-Packard why would anyone believe that she would look out for the best interest of working families of South Carolina?
…
“As CEO she shipped jobs overseas, but she doesn’t want to stop with Hewlett-Packard’s jobs. Her support for policies like closing the Export-Import Bank would result in more jobs in South Carolina being shipped overseas as well.
…
“Since her brief but catastrophic time at Hewlett-Packard, no other company has hired her as CEO. South Carolina voters shouldn’t give Carly Fiorina the chance to ruin our country the same way she ruined Hewlett-Packard. “
