Christale Spain is the first Black Woman to Chair the South Carolina Democratic Party. Christale is the proud mother of Zacchaeus “Zac” Spain, who is completing his Senior year at Benedict College. She is a South Carolina native and a USC @ Aiken and Columbia College graduate. While in undergrad, she was a premier women’s Basketball Player, leading the team in rebounds and points. She is the only player in USC-A history, male or female, to have over 1,000 career points and over 1,000 career rebounds. She’s a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She got involved with the State Party as a volunteer in 2012, working her way up to Executive Director. She has worked under the past three SCDP Chairs. Christale is the founding Chair of the SCDP Black Women’s Caucus. She has extensive campaign experience, working at the senior level for Presidential Campaigns, Senator Bernie Sanders (2016) and Senator Cory Booker (2020), then she ran the SCDP Coordinated Campaign for the 2020 historic US Senatorial race for Jaime Harrison. Christale worked at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee during the historic 2022 midterm elections as the Senior Advisor of Black Engagement. She was a member of the DCCC’s Bargaining Committee, which led to the organization’s first union, making it the largest collective bargaining unit in the Democratic Party; she joined the Teamsters due to this effort.
