Political convention season is upon us with the Democratic Convention in full swing and the RNC set to begin August 24th. Everyone seems to be posting opinions of the conventions and their speakers on social media and FS1’s Shannon Sharpe is no different.
The co-host of FS1’s Undisputed took exception to South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham’s comments that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were “sore losers”, calling out the three term senator from the Palmetto state on Twitter.
Graham referenced a Fox News story that quoted former president Obama as saying that “(President) Trump never took the job seriously” and former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton calling President Trump “Dangerous”, prompting Graham to say that both figures “Give sore losers a bad name”.
Sharpe responded at 12:10 A.M. Thursday morning by tweeting, “2 term Presidents aren’t sore losers, last I checked. But carry on.”
At 12:13 A.M , Sharpe followed by asking Graham, “Is that why you kiss President Trump’s butt since you couldn’t beat him in the primaries? You couldn’t even win your home state of SC? PATHETIC.”
President Trump did defeat Graham in the 2016 South Carolina Republican Primary, but Graham had already suspended his campaign at that point.
Thursday was far from the first time Sharpe has voiced a political opinion. His tone has shifted over the years, however. In 2016, following the election, Sharpe told TMZ that President Trump deserved the same respect as President Obama.
On July 7th 2020, though, on an episode of Undisputed, Sharp says that the reason President Trump resists changing politically incorrect nicknames, like Redskins and Indians, is to “Preach to his base, racism and division. His approach isn’t to bring people together. It is to divide, divide, divide divide”.
Thursday’s tweet seems to signal that Sharpe’s political leanings are continuing to evolve.
