Senator Rand Paul talks about being a ‘new type of Republican’ but is embraced by a politician who has repeatedly supported a divisive symbol from the past. It doesn’t matter how many times Senator Paul tries to reinvent himself, he continues to prove time and again that he’s just another selfish politician who will say and do anything to get elected.”
Press releases and other information from the South Carolina Democratic Party
Columbia, SC— South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison issued the following statement regarding Republican Presidential candidates Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina campaigning in the Palmetto State today.
“Governor Walker and Carly Fiorina both have disastrous records of job creation. As Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker failed miserably in keeping his promise to create 250,000 jobs in his first term and his job creation agency is mired in mismanagement and questions about tax credits that went to his political donors.
“Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina claims we need an executive in the White House to create jobs but was named one of the ‘Worst American CEOs’. While she fired 30,000 people, Fiorina received a $40 million golden parachute after driving Hewlett-Packard into the ground.”
Columbia, SC— South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison issued the following statement on Republican Presidential candidates Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee campaigning in the Palmetto State today.
Last night, after hearing Senators Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Governor Mike Huckabee, we were left with one conclusion— none of these candidates offered any real solutions for working families. None of these candidates mentioned equal pay or raising the minimum wage, and all would repeal the Affordable Care Act, leaving millions without access to healthcare.
“Senator Rand Paul has even proposed a dangerous tax plan that could raise taxes on middle class families while giving the wealthy a big break and would allow businesses to discriminate against who they serve. Once again Republicans are looking out for wealthy special interests instead of South Carolina’s working families.”
Columbia, SC— The South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison issued the following statement on the announcement that Charleston, South Carolina will host one of the Democratic Presidential Primary debates.
We are pleased to be hosting one of the six DNC sanctioned Democratic Primary debates. Given the recent events in Charleston, co-hosting this debate with the DNC and the Congressional Black Caucus Institute on the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend is especially historic. In 2007, South Carolina hosted the first debate and we are proud to continue our tradition of involvement by hosting the last debate before voting begins in the 2016 caucuses and primaries.”
Columbia, SC— South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison issued the following statement on the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.
Today marks fifty years of inclusive civic participation for all. The poll taxes, grandfather clauses, and literacy tests of yesterday are today’s restrictive voter ID laws and racial gerrymandering.
The Voting Rights Act was fought for on the streets and bridges across the South. This day reminds us why we fought; especially as Republicans in South Carolina and across the nation go out of their way to erase our progress and pass restrictive voting laws that limit Americans’ fundamental right to vote. These laws disproportionately affect women, minorities, youth, and the elderly. The South Carolina Democratic Party remains committed to advancing voting access for all Americans, today and every day.”
